2023 / Chants & Prayers
I look at this piece hanging on the wall - it holds within it a hope, an unspoken request.
Behind what I see, there is another level of reading, another dimension which I sense and yet escapes me: this sculpture, this painting, it has a presence, a function, its own destiny.
It has power.
This object carries within it my hope, my desire to access - at least in part - its secret world.
Thousands years ago, deep in my eternal memory, I have created these magical objects that I call Art - sometimes I have prostrated myself before them, I have touched them - millions of hands like mine caressing the stone until it is polished - so many requests, unfulfilled desires, so many prayers.
Digging, with hands, with nails, polishing, sculpting, drawing,
Animals, men, women, the sky
I see, I want, I wait, I hope, I desire, I pray, I am!
Rain for the land, water for the thirst,
life in the womb.
The Chants & Prayers series explores the interplay between the elements of nature and the human experience, evoking a sense of awe and reverence for the mysteries of the universe. The use of symbolic imagery invokes ancient tales and texts that have shaped the cultural landscape of the human race for centuries.
Using a wide variety of materials, including stone, marble, wood, metal, and bronze, the works feature enigmatic chants and incantations that could have existed in ancient times. Each artwork is like a mysterious phrase to be decoded, deciphered.
The sculptures are imbued with a sense of ancient wisdom and knowledge that is palpable. They seem to speak to us on a subconscious level, tapping into the deep-seated fears and hopes that lie within us all.
